Summer Shows: One and Two

Number 28 of my favorite 100 photos...

Another shot from atop Mt. Evans... this was taken last summer and the lake to the right there is still frozen over... it's pretty high up...

_______

The kind folks over at Turner Network Television (TNT / TBS) sent me a few DVDs to screen to launch their summer schedule starting tonight at 9 E.S.T. As I am TVGuy, I was only to0 happy to oblige...

Whitney Matheson over at USA Today has been watching one new show a day this month just to acquaint herself to other programs she has never seen before.. which is a really good idea that I'm thinking of stealing shamelessly and parroting as my own brilliant idea borrowing this month. Since I have these shiny new DVDs of "My Boys" and "The Bill Engvall Show" sitting here we'll start with them....

But once again I find myself in a quandry. (Not having any earthly idea who Bill Engvall is or why he has his own show being a smaller, less-important quandry for the time being...)

You see, when someone is nice enough to send you something (thanks again for "The Closer" cookie press kit.. TVGal really enjoyed the Snickerdoodles...) you feel bad if you don't like it... remember your Mom saying "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.."?

Well, that's kinda where I'm at...

"My Boys" (premieres tonight, July 12th at 9pm EST) is about a 20-something female Chicago sportswriter (pressing the boundaries of believability right away there, and not in a good way) who is cute, plays poker, and has lots of cute guy friends that she isn't dating. As far as I can tell, that's about it. Lots of cute people finding their way in the world. Glossy, well-made... and I wouldn't watch another episode if you begged me to... as a 44 year old white male it's not really speaking to me.. and why should it?

So if you like young cute people not having a lot of sex with each other but playing poker and doing other things, feel free to check it out...

My Boys: 40

"The Bill Engvall Show" (premieres tonight, July 12th at 9:30pm EST) is about a comedian named Bill Engvall playing a family counselor named Bill Preston (why the last name change?). He has a Classic TV Family, which is to say he is married to a woman better looking than himself (the always lovely Nancy Travis) and 3 precocious, meddling, NotBelievableInAnyWayAsActualChildrenFromEarth kids and their lives and loves and school and dating and blah blah blah blah....

Again, not knowing who Bill Engvall is (apparently something called the Blue Collar TV show is where he gained fame alongside Jeff Foxworthy... I never watched it because I don't believe in supporting comedians that have their own line of Beef Jerky.. yes Foxworthy, I'm talking to you...) isn't helping matters in regards to me enjoying this program... it's well-made, glossy... and I wouldn't watch another episode if you begged me.

Demographically it's waaayy outside my area of interest... but I can see why it would be popular to many other people other than... well, me.

The Bill Engvall Show: 42

I'll be giving TNT's "The Closer" a looksee when it starts up this month definitely... now where did we put those Snickerdoodles....
