Favorite 100 Movies of All Time (part 7 of 10)

Number 72 of my 100 fav photos is...

a Jamaican sunset... I believe it was Wednesday of our Honeymoon.....

_____

Long Time Reader First Time Contributor Marc (dammit, it's Marc with a "C", not a "K"!) Wallace sends along what has to be the single worst use of videotape in our nation's history...

Honestly... my god, what is going on? Are they drugged?

I only wish I could go back in time and have Fred and Sharon do our wedding video... damn...

_____

My Favorite 100 film countdown continues...60 down, 40 to go....

40. > Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger); this film completes me... sorry, couldn't resist...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 83
Metacritic: 77

39. > Jurassic Park (Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill); one of the greatest moviegoing experiences of my life was seeing these dinosaurs for the first time on the screen... like "The Matrix", the sequels were wholly unnecessary... well, except for lining the coffers of movie executives everywhere...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 86
Metacritic: 68

38. > Terminator 2 (& Terminator 1); unlike "Superman", this sequel is far superior to the original.. but both of them have a problem when they show the future... the effects of the battles between men and machines always look incredibly cheesy... like they were filmed in someone's backyard... but whatever, they are both superrewatchable (yes, I just made up that word) and the FOX series currently running is pretty damn good if I say so myself...

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out how incredibly unattractive Linda Hamilton is in the lead role... yikes, my brother is prettier than her... but she is a good actress so I guess I'll just let it go... for now... but I'll be back... get it? Arnold says that line in both movies... er...

...never mind...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 97
Metacritic: 65

37. > Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks, Robin Wright); Incredibly inventive film that spawned maybe the worst book I've ever read... I was stuck in an airport with nothing to read about a decade ago when the person next to me left behind a book called "The Wit and Wisdom of Forrest Gump"... of course I grabbed it and began perusing it... 20 minutes later I wanted to murder the author... but it's still a damn fine film...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 72
Metacritic: 82

36. > When Harry met Sally (Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan); Great movie that got me past my "I hate Billy Crystal and everything he embodies as a film actor" barrier that was firmly in place since the... well, the dawn of time...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 95
Metacritic: 76

35. > Apollo 13 (Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon); I'm a huge, enormous giant fan of anything to do with the Apollo space program... the HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon" (also produced by Tom Hanks) is one of the greatest things I've ever viewed both in film or tv...

This film is pretty terrific despite the fact that I knew how it ended before I began watching it... but it's great nonetheless.... if you watch it and want to know more about the Apollo era, I cannot recommend the companion book by Andrew Chaikin... "A Man on the Moon" more highly... great, interesting read...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 95
Metacritic: 77

34. > Monty Python and the Holy Grail (John Cleese, Eric Idle); I spent a lot of my youth watching my local PBS station rerunning the Monty Python series from the BBC... and this film is just fantastic...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 94
Metacritic: 90

33. > Saving Private Ryan (Tom Hanks, Matt Damon); Oh look, Matt Damon makes yet another appearance in a great movie... honestly, is Ben Affleck just totally bitter about the career paths the two of them took after "Good Will Hunting"? I mean, "Paycheck" is just excreable. How can Affleck even talk to him anymore??

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 94
Metacritic: 90

32. > Time After Time (Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen, David Warner); Sweet Jesus does this movie need to be remade... hello, Hollywood, are you listening? Time Travel, Serial Killers and a great romantic story to boot?? What are you waiting for?

I know many of you reading this haven't seen this film... for god's sake, rent it NOW.

Yeah, it's from 1979... get over it... IT'S FREAKING GREAT.... again, it's Jack the Ripper and H.G. Wells in current day San Francisco... what are you waiting for??

I love this film....

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 90
Rotten Tomatoes: 85
Metacritic: n/a

31. > Schindler's List (Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley); Spielberg's a goddamn genius... I mean, an actual living genius... well, not so much for "The Terminal" and "Hook", but nevertheless... a genius... nothing else need be added...

Rating (out of 100)
TVGuy: 91
Rotten Tomatoes: 96
Metacritic: 93

And now, films that deserve to buried in a landfill and never uncovered.... there are billions but I'll just throw out the first dozen that come to mind.. ready.... go!

TOTAL EXCREMENT
