A cornucopia of treats at TVGuy Video today...
>First off, if you're going to breakdance (and really, who among us hasn't), please remember that small children should be far far away as this clip reminds us...
>Also, a 5 minute preview shown to advertisers last week of NBC's "The Bionic Woman" has shown up online... I thought it looked okay actually.... you can weigh in after viewing it here...
>And finally, the National Media is up in arms over the Mexico crowd's treatment of Miss USA at the Miss Universe Pageant the other night... they booed her lustily during her Q&A segment and were shouting "Mexico" during her answer... behaving quite boorishly as I understand it...
Her unfortunate fall on the stage can be seen here, and the boobirds in all their glory are heard here....
You know the classic gag where someone has an angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other?

Yeah, that one... well, it sums up perfectly my thoughts on this global tsunami that is The Miss Universe Pageant....
TVGuy Angel: I love Mexico... I've travelled there several times and loved each and every moment... the people there have been outgoing and friendly, the ocean is blissfully blue and my memories of that special place warm my heart each time I think of it... Viva la Mexico!
TVGuy Devil: Hey Mexico, there's always room for another Star on our Flag....

So,
Well, a bunch of people from my high school were getting together to send off a beloved drama teacher in my old home town (rural Illinois, feel the excitement!) and... well, I couldn't get back there for that due to work restrictions, but I did go back Sunday and Monday and took photos of the old homestead etc... and basically was just immersed in remembering life from the 60's and 70's for 48 hours...
I'll deal with that probably Thursday and/or Friday... but Travel is on my mind to rant about, and so I shall...
Hmm.. where to begin...
For those of you unfamiliar with the Denver International Airport, it looks a lot like... well, I'm not sure actually....

I go back and forth on the design... some days I think the architects were brilliant visionaries whose work will be hailed as timeless...

and then other days I think they obviously just drank a lot....
The time to go through the line at the ticket counter was around 45 minutes and it was another 40 to get through security... given that there were about 1,500 people going through at that time, pretty speedy all in all...
The flight took 75 minutes, which mean I spent more time at the airport just getting to the gate than I did in the air, which is kinda crazy... upon landing at the Quad City "International" Airport (Just because an airplane landed there once from Quebec in the late 70's doesn't mean you are "International", okay?) I discovered the joys of the small airport almost immediately...
Time to recover Checked Baggage: 4 minutes (!)
Time to rent car from Enterprise and actually be on my way: 4 minutes (!!)
That was pretty sweet... Oh how things changed two days later....
Upon my return Enterprise once again was a rock star (3 minutes to complete paperwork and be off...), and the Ticket Counter folks were speedy as well (4 minutes tops...)
Unfortunately, the world of TSA awaited me...
_____
TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration. I'm certain there are thousands upon thousands of hard-working Americans employed by this group, tirelessly working to insure our freedoms are in place as we travel throughout our great nation...
...unfortunately none of those people live in the Quad Cities... and more importantly, none of them work at the Airport there....
I got in line at 7:25am... my flight was scheduled to leave at 8:17am... so I had just under an hour to get through security... there were only 16 people ahead of me, and virtually all of them were over the age of 60, so not a lot of "threats" there to slow things down... I figured I'd be at the gate waiting area by 7:30am easily...
... I actually heard the boarding call for my flight while in the security screening line....
Let me emphasize this... I was still in line at 8:15am(!!) despite the fact that there were only 16 people ahead of me an hour earlier...
How is this possible? I'd finish the story now, but it's going to take awhile to process this much rage and anger... as we say in the TV biz...
Tune in Tomorrow...

Ahh yes, TSA really stands for Totally Slow Administration. The same scenario awaited me at the Quad Cities Airport with just 7 people in front of me. I guess it was time for the random cavity search of the family before us, and that takes time and resources of course, and the TSA did in fact apologize me that they were so understaffed. So you are not alone. Plan or arriving at the airport 2 hours before your scheduled departure, sir...bart1007
Per your header, what has always baffled me is the insistence on listening to the "in case of a water landing" portion of the program when I am flying over completely landlocked states. I suppose it's necessary in the off chance that we could land in a random lake somewhere, but really, what are the odds...
LOL! Gotta love air travel! Sometimes a horse-n-buggy seems more appealing...and might even prove faster.
